Evolution of consciousness

Description

A cultural-anthropological scheme of development of global and individual consciousness from the early beginnings of archaic "paradisical" consciousness, via stone-age magical, iron-age mythical and modern mental, toward utopist integral consciousness, is proposed in the philosophy of Jean Gebser. Gebser's scheme includes scientific, religious, artistic, social and philosophic fact into its five-level description. All levels exist not only in their historic succession but also interrelated within the cultural structure of the present world-situation.
