Conveying dogmatism

  • Ideological conservatism
  • Being dogmatic
  • Accepting dogmas and standards

Description

Asserting certain fundamental truths to be beyond any criticism and to be absolute and unalterable in any human situation.

Context

Groups based on a common ideology must frequently alter it to fit new circumstances. Dogmatism is a way of thinking which attempts to maintain the purity of the original ideology. Dogmatism is also used in a pejorative sense, meaning the refusal to change one's thinking even when all evidence demonstrates that it is necessary.

Claim

  1. Some truths are so vital that even extreme circumstances do not alter them.

Counter claim

  1. Truth arises out of the given circumstances, not as an abstraction.
