Various proposals have been made for replacing or modifying the existing system of national governments (of independent sovereign nations) by some form of world government, possibly as a development of the United Nations system. This would require a considerable rewrite of international law to encompass the idea of supranationalism.
One World Government for the whole planet Earth – effective, democratic and representative of all the world's peoples – drives home the message: that we are indeed but one people on a tiny island of life in a sea of nothingness; that the development of ourselves as a species and the responsible stewardship of our planet is most strongly and effectively served by our unity, whilst ever ill served divided.
