Unvalued indigenous resources

  • Discounted practices of the past
  • Overlooked traditional technologies
  • Discredited old methods
  • Discounted traditional knowledge

Nature

Guided by conceits about the superiority of modern culture, scientists often fail to even notice traditional technologies, or will discredit their value.

Claim

  1. An important attribute of indigenous knowledge, aside from its degree of success in dealing with matters of survival, is its local ownership. The efficacy of technique is contingent on the confidence invested in it by the implementer. Indigenous knowledge in agriculture, energy supply and conservation, biodiversity, and even traditional culture, is important because it is believed in by its practitioners.
