Unmanageable cost of dying

  • High cost of burial
  • Burdensome price of death
  • Prohibitive funeral costs

Incidence

A 1992 study on the prices of burial in Moscow show that a funeral service costs at least 3,500 roubles. Coffins, which were increasingly difficult to find, cost at least 2,000 roubles each. Many families were only able to afford the rental of a coffin from the church to the cemetery, where the body of the deceased is put into a plastic bag.
