Oppressive reality

Claim

  1. Political and economic oppression creates a perception of a particular societal system as being both inherently oppressive and real. Oppression absorbs the attention of those within its dominion and acts to submerge their consciousness. Factual oppression becomes more oppressive by adding to it consciousness of oppression. This in turn reinforces the belief by the oppressed of their impotence in effecting change. Those who do not emerge from the oppression of the reality, and turn on it using both reflection and action will continue to be a prey to its force. Reflection without action leads to false understandings of reality, either sentimental or cynical in nature. Action without reflection leads to ineffectivity and to eventually reinforcing oppression. Oppression seen as and acted on in both its objective and subjective dimensions by the oppressed can be emerged from and thereby transformed.
