Sensitizing men to gender issues

Description

Men are frequently accused of not being aware that there is a difference in the treatment or attitudes of men and women, an accusation levelled most often in the context of a social behavior which is disadvantageous to women, and so by implication, advantageous to men. As the disadvantage is not experienced by the men, they are not aware of its existence, and may well refuse to take complaints about it seriously. If there is to be fair social treatment of both sexes, men must be brought to see the disadvantage and the seriousness of its consequences. This can be done by sensitization: provision to men of information about these social habits, exposing men to the opinions of women about social habits, and serious discussion with sociological experts.
