Trade Records Analysis of Flora and Fauna in Commerce (TRAFFIC), is a world wide network which monitors trade in wildlife products, wild animals and plants. In 1992, TRAFFIC opened an office in India, in response to the fact that the Indian subcontinent had become a major source and conduit for the illegal trade in wildlife products. Successes include: in 1993, seizure of 287 kgs of tiger bones (over 20 animals), valued at US$625,000, on the way to the Far East; a second major seizure of tiger bones a week later.
