Integrating water resources management in national development plans

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

Agenda 21 recommends integrated water resources planning and management at the national level in the framework of the national planning process and, where appropriate, establishment of independent regulation and monitoring bodies for freshwater, based on national legislation and economic measures.
