Tactics include: heuristic models to appropriate relevant technology by ferreting out and perceiving the various possible areas in which human ingenuity needs to be released; applying mathematical models by developing criteria for updating screens; applying information by perceiving trends in the social process, by projecting production of goods, services and technologies and by determining societal parameters; comprehensive screening to filter and evaluate technologies according to the need for them and their impact and genuine utility as a way of enabling the selection of certain ones for application; experiential training to appropriate relevant technologies by applying and testing such technologies which relate to the specific arenas of the vocational engagement process; intercultural orientation to appropriate relevant technologies by exposing individuals to other distinct cultures; thereby enabling them to know about the unique technologies of each culture; and information dissemination to broaden the appropriation of relevant technologies through channelling content-filled data relative to these technologies, to special groups and to the general public. An example is the computerization of personal health data and relevant medical treatment practices to enable the practising physician to make his decision, diagnosis and prognosis quicker and more comprehensively.
Technology and transfer of know-how from Western countries is important to enhance the likelihood of appropriate technology applications therein.
Now glass fibers and microwaves have replaced cables – each new technology using less materials but providing greater capacity for sending and receiving information. Areas not yet wired for telephones (in the former Soviet Union, for example) are expected to leapfrog directly into cellular communications.
