Trivialization of love
- Simplistic concept of love
- Collapsed significance of love
Claim
- Reducing love to an emotional or sexual response to another person or thing effectively destroys the depth of the reality. While warm-hearted, tender or even sexual responses may be a dimension of love, they leave out the discipline and sacrifice required of the deeper experiences of love. There are ample suggestions that the most profound forms of love are found in the midst of the emotional experience of hate of another. This view exalts various forms of erotic love and forgets brotherly and spiritual love.
