Religious opposition to public health practices

In 1993, Spain's high court ruled against government advertisements aimed at curbing the spread of Aids by promoting the use of condoms. Both majority dissenting judges were members of the Roman Catholic fellowship Opus Dei, and support the position of the Catholic National Confederation of Schoolparents. However, a 1990 survey suggested that 65% of Spaniards supported the Health Ministry campaign.

The Catholic church opposes the use of condoms for prevention of sexually transmitted diseases because they are also contraceptives.
