Maltreatment of livestock

  • Maltreatment of transport animals
  • Cruelty to herd animals
  • Beating of draught animals
  • Maltreatment of horses

Incidence

Animals such as mules, donkeys, oxen, camels and horses are widely used in developing countries, both on farms and in urban areas. They are frequently maltreated and beaten mercilessly. In industrialized countries, horses, once they have ceased to be useful for their original purpose (racing, draught, amusement) because of age or any other reason, are frequently maltreated in the process of transporting them to a slaughterhouse.
