Inadequate system of child support enforcement

  • State provision of child support in default of alimony

Incidence

In some cases it is extremely difficult to enforce child maintenance obligations, for example against a parent who is residing in another country. In UK more than £1 billion a year is spent on social security payments to single mothers who do not receive maintenance from former husbands or partners.
