Disruption of food supply due to military activities
- War-induced famine
Nature
Hundreds of thousands of people die each year from malnutrition caused by disruption of food supplies by anti-government guerrillas and other military forces. Crops are ruined, farm labourers killed, distribution networks for food and agricultural supplies are disrupted and storage facilities are damaged or destroyed. Military activities coupled with natural disasters like drought create famine. War time conditions make it nearly impossible to mount relief efforts.
