Decreasing household size

  • Decreasing family size

Incidence

During the 1980s, the size of the average household, as measured by the number of persons per household, diminished in most ECE countries (by up to 29 percent in the case of Denmark). The size of the average household in the EU countries, for example, decreased in all countries to varying degrees. In 1990 it averaged 1.7 persons in Denmark to 3.4 persons in Spain.
