Whilst it is true that good music is still heard and even still written, the evil influence of musical perversions cannot be overstated. Modern music has resulted in the ruin of an entire generation.
Crime and violence in society are partly due to the preponderance of aggressive (rock) music and to the lack of classic music with its soothing powers. Aggressive music alienates the body from its natural emotional climate and evokes its most primitive reactions. In rock concerts, for example, the high volume of the music, the mechanical hammering of its rhythm, its sheer physical impact and total lack of nuance, leave an audience in a state of complete mental stupor, drugged, numbed and impervious to feeling. The repetition of music which is totally unemotional in its effect dis-educates the emotions. A synthesized rhythm section with an immaculate, mechanical beat is totally unnatural and estranging? It breeds automata, or worse still, causes people to suppress unexpressed emotions, and the frustrations stemming from this can burst out in otherwise inexplicable violence. There is a danger of pornography in sound, whereby the raucous, throaty delivery of many pop singers bases itself, albeit unwittingly, on the sound of lustful ejaculation.
History of violence is considerably longer than that of rock music. In earlier times, the Church objected the lasciviousness of much dance music and the profane tunes in sacred works. Even Bach was accused of excessive elaboration. In the 1920s, jazz was seen as a threat to the civilized European society. In the 1960s, the Beatles was thought subversive. Music has a powerful impact on emotions and senses, but the arousal achieved by rock music or Wagner are not different from each other.
