Ageing industrial plants and processes

Current trends show a drop or stagnation in investment in industrial plants in the industrial countries ('investment gap'). There are rising or comparatively high shares of replacement investment and investment for rationalization and phase-out, coupled with falling or comparatively small shares or investment for extending capacity in the industrial countries.
