Surrendering

Description

Giving up, relinquishing, yielding.

Claim

  1. Providing to others what they unreasonably crave from one's own property, material or intellectual, in order to influence their moral comprehension and subsequent behaviour, as for example, 'by turning the other cheek'.

  2. The best victory is when the opponent surrenders of its own accord before there are any actual hostilities...It is best to win without fighting. (Sun-tzu, The Art of War: Planning a Siege.

Counter claim

  1. Surrendering gives oneself over for punishment to that which was being resisted; it therefore not only ends a conflict but ensures victory for and perhaps persecution by the other side.
