Supporting international data networks on marine issues

Context

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends strengthening the capacity of international organizations to handle information and support the development of national, subregional and regional data and information systems. This could also include networks linking countries with comparable environmental problems.
