Construction and testing of prototype systems to identify possible improvements in lighting of motor vehicles and the extent to which regulations should be amended to permit them.
Present lighting regulations for passenger cars and freight vehicles are fairly restrictive. There is a danger that, as technology moves on, regulations formulated for an older technology will inhibit the development of better techniques. For instance, for both passenger cars and freight vehicles, the brake light system seems to have a potential for more sophistication. The warning should be earlier and more visible and it should make it possible to differentiate between high and low deceleration braking.
