Reducing watercraft emissions as air and water pollutants

Implementation

In 1996, the US Environmental Protection Agency was expected to issue federal regulations that for the first time would cut pollution from new recreational watercraft ranging from jet skis to yachts. The rules, which are designed to cut hydrocarbon emissions by 75 percent, would also raise prices of new engines by an average of US$1,000 over the following few years, but savings in fuel costs could compensate boat owners by nearly a third of the increase.
