Recognizing information role of intergovernmental institutions

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities.

UNCTAD would play an important role in the implementation of Agenda 21 as extended at UNCTAD VIII, taking into account the importance of the interrelationships between development, international trade and the environment and in accordance with its mandate in the area of sustainable development.
