The Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue is a forum of US and EU consumer organisations which develops and agrees joint consumer policy recommendations to the US government and European Union to promote the consumer interest in EU and US policy making. The TACD was launched in September 1998, at the end of the inaugural meeting which took place in Washington and gathered more than 60 consumer representatives from the US and the EU.
The Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue includes all the major consumer organizations in Europe and the United States. Its 60 members include Public Citizen, Consumer Federation of America, the Public Interest Research Groups, Consumers Association of the UK, Consumentenbond of the Netherlands, and Eurocoop. They are working together on issues of concern to consumers on both sides of the Atlantic: issues like food safety, internet trade and data privacy, product standards and labelling. A major TACD Conference in 1999 took place in Brussels, 23 - 24 April 1999.
