Description
Promotion of lasting literacy and lifelong reading habits through the production of reading material in relevant languages, the promotion of sustained reading habits, the encouragement of research on the role of books in various cultural contexts.
Implementation
UNESCO's programme includes the following elements: encouraging member states to adopt national policies on books and reading; establishing regional and subregional agreements for cooperation in that field.
