The Ukrainian authorities have opened up Chernobyl to foreign visitors, generating welcome foreign currency. Tour groups, paying a basic US$100 plus US$25 a head, are provided with their own geiger counter to measure radioactivity levels and can have lunch in a special Chernobyl restaurant featuring 'radiation-free produce'.
