Monitoring the technical capacity of polluters and polluting industries, to develop new environmental technologies, and to meet new environmental standards is an important aspect in developing a National Environmental Action Plan (NEAP). The monitoring of environmental technological developments in industry; the increasing trend towards more sustainable practices and new performance standards, all represent important steps in the implementation of a NEAP. Monitoring such activity and disseminating the information helps promote pollution control methods across industry and encourage other industries to develop more environmentally friendly - and accountable - practices. Measuring the progress of a country's industrial sector towards better environmental control is an important part of the NEAP process.
