Besides exposure to single chemical pollutants, people are exposed to the cumulative effects of combined pollutants through air, food, and drinking water.
The objectives of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Cumulative Exposure Project (CEP) are to: (a) estimate exposure levels for a wide variety of toxic pollutants; (b) characterize the national distribution of these estimated exposure levels across communities and demographic groups; (c) identify the types of communities and demographic groups which appear to have the highest exposure levels; and (e) identify potentially important emission sources and pollutants for which information is most uncertain.
