Many projects use e-mail to avoid many time-consuming face-to-face meetings, which can then be reserved for more important gatherings to discuss project progress and take strategic decisions. Nevertheless, personal meetings are important as they help to build the vital personal links between project teams and to cope with times of difficulty. Successful projects go further and assemble the whole team together at least once a year, while many projects exchange personnel to improve the exchange of ideas and stimulate inter-team project co-operation.
