Increasing public awareness of persistent organic pollutants

Description

The provision of information to the general public including individuals who are direct users of persistent organic pollutants, including labelling on risk assessment and hazard and risk reduction.

Claim

  1. It is important to recognize that, unlike many other international agreements, action on POPs will benefit first and foremost the health and environment of those countries that take action. POPs disperse greatest in the areas in which they are released. Problems associated with POPs may justifiably seem less urgent to developing countries than issues like potable water. This is clearly a justifiable position. However, these are problems that last much longer than many environmental problems, and that preventative measures will end up saving countries resources in the long term.
