Implementing legislation against organized crime

  • Providing laws against racketeering

Implementation

In 1999, the European Union undertook to give Europol, the European police office, more resources, and to establish Eurojust, a network of prosecutors, police officers and magistrates. The new unit would ensure cooperation between the various national judiciaries. A European police academy was also envisaged, to train senior officials from EU countries. The fight against money laundering was also on the agenda.
