Exchanging information to control transboundary air pollution

Implementation

The Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution aims to (1) protect man and the environment against air pollution and (2) endeavour to limit and, as far as possible, gradually reduce and prevent air pollution, including long-range transboundary air pollution by means of exchanges of information, consultation, research and monitoring, policies and strategies to be developed without undue delay which will serve as a means of combating the discharge of air pollutants.

Narrower

  1. Providing information about national strategies to control transboundary air pollution
  2. Providing impact information for transboundary air pollution
  3. Informing about industrial development decisions affecting transboundary air pollution
  4. Exchanging physico-chemical information relating to transboundary air pollution
  5. Exchanging meteorological information on transboundary air pollution
  6. Exchanging information on transmission processes leading to transboundary air pollution
  7. Exchanging information on costs of control technologies for transboundary air pollution
  8. Exchanging information on control technologies for transboundary air pollution
  9. Exchanging biological information relating to transboundary air pollution
  10. Agreeing standards for information exchange on transboundary air pollution
  11. Agreeing standard procedures for monitoring transboundary air pollution
  12. Agreeing size of flux-units for measuring transboundary air pollution

Facilitates

  1. Supporting gathering of industry information
  2. Strengthening network of national information exchange centres on chemicals
  3. Strengthening information networks on innovative waste disposal methods
  4. Providing environmental information systems
  5. Maximizing use of information on chemicals management
  6. Increasing information exchange on marine and coastal issues
  7. Improving information systems on toxic chemicals
  8. Improving information systems for international governmental decision-making processes
  9. Improving developing countries' access to international information systems on chemicals
  10. Facilitating international information exchanges on urban transportation
  11. Exchanging information on programmes to reduce toxic chemical risk
  12. Evaluating toxicological information
  13. Developing information exchange on carbon dioxide emissions
