Embodying significant vocation

Description

Stimulating and intentionalizing everyman's relationship to his work so that it is seen as a vocational engagement with a mission.

Context

An integral part of embodying vocational assignments, to allow the individual to be conscious of his work as a dynamic and covenanted mission assignment to the community.

Implementation

Tactics include: vocational guilds to train the worker and protect him from unscrupulous employers, and which help to deepen the understanding of each other's vocation; spirit nurturing to enable people to hold on to the sense of 'vocation'; structured time to help people use time intentionally; life-long engagement to provide people the vision that any vocation is for life; and celebrated employment to dramatize the uniqueness of every man's work.

Claim

  1. Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life; everyone must carry out a concrete assignment that demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated, thus, everyone's task is as unique as his specific opportunity to implement it. (Dr. Viktor Frankl).
