Developing universal manual sign languages for the deaf

  • Accommodating multiplicity of manual sign languages for the deaf

Claim

  1. International deaf signing should be standardized and taught in further education, at infant school level or earlier, for the following universal reasons: (a) global interchange could take place with only one universal language to learn; (b) crowd control, in dangerous situations, would be easier to manage; (c) persons born deaf or suffering later hearing loss would understand and be better understood in the population; (d) classrooms may be quieter and yet afford sharing of information and ideas; and (e) most basic essential skills would be attained faster because of this extra mnemonic.
