Westernization of traditional modes of life in developing countries (striving for greater incomes, unrestricted consumption, an urban may of life, etc.) leads to a crisis as traditional culture comes under the impact of haphazard modernization, and as modern culture is introduced and rapidly disseminated in an unprepared cultural-historical medium. The inability of a society as a system to freely and easily 'digest' a great a portion of modern modes of life, results in culture as a system being unable organically to infiltrate society – some elements become hypertrophically developed and others become minimized.
