Vulgar combination of sacred and erotic in advertising

Nature

The use of sacred symbols in connection with erotic material to advertise merchandise is vulgar, tasteless and often blasphemous. Most often the use of religious artefacts and low eroticism is intended to offend and shock and so increase impact on the market.

Claim

  1. Combining religious icons with pornography to advertise is one more example of the commercialization of society and materialism. The values of the economy, in this case marketing and sales, occupy a higher plane than the profound, the sacred or the authentically sexual.
