Violation of human rights of individual parliamentarians


Incidence

An international committee has received communications concerning 625 cases in 52 countries between 1977 and 1988 September. Most of the cases concerned the situation of parliamentarians detained without charge or trial or imprisoned by virtue of a court decision, other included violations of freedom of expression, exile and disappearance, extra-judicial killings and summary executions, and curtailments of civil and political rights.
