Vagueness of laws

  • Vague laws
  • Vague regulations

Nature

A law may be considered vague if it fails to define possible offences with sufficient precision so that ordinary people can understand what conduct is prohibited or so as to discourage arbitrary and discriminatory application.

Incidence

Within some legislations, such vagueness may be prohibited by statute.
