Unsanitary refuse disposal

  • Indiscriminate refuse dumping
  • Uncovered refuse dumps

Incidence

Mexico's waste disposal currently depends almost entirely on unauthorized rubbish dumps, with an estimated 80,000 sites across the country, more than 3,000 of them in Mexico City itself. Approximately 52,000 tonnes of solid wastes are produced each day, only 75% of which is collected by authorities.
