Unrigorous academic disciplines

  • Pseudo-academic studies

Incidence

Students are increasingly attracted away from the rigours of science and technology to pursue such studies as: media, literary theory, feminism, Third World studies and radical sociology. Employers fail to provide levels of reward and career opportunities that demonstrate the value they attach to science and technology, both in specialized and more general roles.

Claim

There is a need for a counter-revolution against the pseudo religions of radical sociology, the flabbier social sciences and the apocalyptic diatribes of extreme environmentalism that currently pass for serious intellectual activity.

Counter-claim

Arts subject have traditionally been perceived as offering a broader education offering advantages in obtaining employment in the civil service or the financial sector. They are also viewed as offering more opportunities for creativity and self-expression.
