Claim
Interpreters may take advantage of their privileged position in order to bias, distort or filter the information being communicated, whether under personal, financial or political pressure. In the case of consecutive interpretation, where notes are taken, these may be communicated to third parties such as commercial or intelligence agencies. Negligence or incompetence on the part of interpreters can severely aggravate tensions between opposing parties.
