Toxic shock syndrome

Toxic shock syndrome is a rare condition associated with tampon use. It is caused by bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Initial symptoms are similar to those of flu, but as the illness progresses, severe hypotension and kidney failure can occur, followed by respiratory arrest.
