Sorex sinalis is known only from the mountains of west-central China, from type specimens collected south east of Fengsiangfu, Shaanxi and southern Gansu. Its habitat is believed to consist of moist montane forest.
Sorex sinalis is considered as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN.
