In Kazakhstan, the most popular animals for trophy hunting are the subspecies of Argali Ovis ammon.
From 1990-1997, foreign hunters shot 75 Kazakhstan Argali and paid more than US$900 000 for their trophies (US$12,000 per Argali).
Ovis ammon is considered by the IUCN as "Vulnerable". CITES lists the species as "Appendix 2".
