Background

The Neotropical Otter is found in a variety of habitats from small forests streams to lakes, swamps and marine coasts with freshwater lagoons.

Other names: Brasilian Otter, (Spanish) Lobito de Rio, Mutria, Gato de agua.

Population levels of Lutra longicaudis are low but little is known of its ecology. The IUCN categorises it as "Not Evaluated".
