Threatened species of Elasmobranchii

  • Threatened species of Rays
  • Threatened species of Sharks

Incidence

One quarter of the world’s sharks and rays are threatened with extinction, largely because of commercial fishing practices. These practices include gill netting, drumlines, culling and drowning as bycatch (and which also impact vulnerable bystanders like dolphins, seals and turtles). Around 100 million sharks are killed globally by humans every year.
