Threatened species of Calyptorhynchus lathami

  • Threatened species of Glossy black-cockatoo

Incidence

A subspecies of glossy black cockatoos is endemic to Kangaroo Island, South Australia. Decades of work by researchers, conservation managers and the community had reportedly brought the cockatoos’ numbers from about 150 to 400. Up to 80% of the area the cockatoos occupy was burnt in the 2020 bushfires; some survivors have been sighted.
