Bubo nipalensis can be found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam.
Bubo nipalensis is listed as a "Lower Risk" but "near threatened" species by the IUCN Red List.
