A frequent form of psychological torture is mock or sham executions of prisoners. Prisoners have a gun pointed at them, the trigger is pulled and there is no bullet in the chamber. In other cases, prisoners are partially asphyxiated by wrapping their heads in a wet towels or plastic sheets or having their heads held under water which sometimes contains excrement, urine or other filth added.
Sham executions has been reported in the following countries: (Africa) Lesotho, Namibia, Somalia, South Africa; (America) Argentina, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, El Salvador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay; (Asia) Iran Islamic Rep, Iraq.
