Phylloxera as pests

Nature

Phylloxera are aphid-like plant pests of the order Homoptera. The most notorious, because of its devastation of vineyards, is the vine phylloxera, or grape louse.

Incidence

When phylloxera devastated the vineyards of France in the 19th century, they were saved by undamaged vines imported from California. Now phylloxera is present in vineyards around the world.
